“I don’t understand music today! So much noise and doodads! All kinds of whistling and squeaking, and the man’s vocals are like a ROBOT!”
Is this you? Do you prefer your songs uncluttered, unfussed, real simple? Just a glorious, imperfect human voice crooning over a gentle strum? Hell yeah.
A great musician once said that any tune worth its salt will sound good solo-acoustic. That great musician was obviously not an EDM artist. It was probably Billy Joel or something; history has obscured the name. But the sentiment remains — a challenge, fair or not, that we may apply to any piece of songwriting in order to determine… dunno, whether a dirtbag would like it? Call it the Dirtbag Test.
Let’s see how “Less From You” fares. What do you think, on a scale of 0 to 5 bags of dirt?
I can't tell if I higher number is better - is it good if a dirtbag likes your work? Or is musical taste unrelated to personal cleanliness, whether moral or bodily? I like it a lot. If that makes me a dirtbag, then so be it.
Handy for if the other scientists are ever sick or unexpectedly arrested on their way to the show.
