I know you guys are being facetious with the perfect masterwork thing, but it is a seriously brilliant album. Couldn’t imagine a better combination of the newer synth and classic-er guitar driven WAS sounds.
Happy birthday, Lobes! I cannot believe this anniversary passed me by. This is sincerely my favourite album of all time. I fell in love with it a year ago and, even though lots of other excellent albums have been released since, there has been nothing I’ve wanted to listen to more so I have kept gravitating back to Lobes. I’m quite happy with that state of affairs tbh. You just need to get on and make another album so I can see how it matches up!
The visualisers are also great. The Dispense With Sentiment visualiser didn’t appear for ages which might be why there are so many audio only views on you tube. I have so much love for the Dan Monick visuals on this album - especially for the Operator Error cover art. Thank you for sharing that demo btw. As the first taste of Lobes it will always have a special place in my heart.
The least effective helicopter pilot instruction manual I’ve ever read
But most of all, it’s the album I listened to most in 2023. I look forward to the inevitable cash-in sequels as you franchise it to death with Lobes 2: The Revenge and Lobes 3: Citizens on Patrol. I doubt even you would be so bold as to stretch to a prequel Lobes Minus One.
Took Lobes out for a birthday walk earlier, still sounded as fresh as it did a year ago.
Hopefully the decision to remove the giant electrical buzz 35 seconds into Operator Error, as featured here, wasn't a particularly contentious one within the band.
"The point is that we should subtitle something “Yesterday, Today, Forever.” " I'd probably buy it... 💵
HBD Lobes, one of few albums I've bought in my lifetime that's still getting consistent plays a year on and still evolving; the acoustic versions before Christmas completely flipped my favourites/ stand out tracks ( Turn it Up on full Lobes, yet Here Goes on reduced Lobes). Here's to a long life of more Lobes 🍹🍸
Since getting the album there have only been a handful of days where I’ve not listened to something from Lobes. So it’s safe to say Lobes is easily one of my favourite albums.

Lobes is certainly certified diamond in my heart, guys.

Lobes is many things to me;
My favourite debut album
The best record of 1987
The least effective helicopter pilot instruction manual I’ve ever read

It's a corker of an album! 🍾
