Perfect stoop chat! Can’t think of anything else that would need to be covered. I was actually impressed with the speed with which you recalled all the Huxtable children! The Cosby Show was pretty big in the UK I think but I wanna say not so much Alf, although we definitely had it. Maybe that’s just me though.
We’ve been to the cinema very little this year and I’m sad to say that when we have, it’s been for a sequel or a reworking. I guess it’s partly audience fault but it’s pretty hard to catch anything original - blink and you miss it! Best cinema experience this year by far was Final Destination: Bloodlines. Is this a quality piece of cinema? Absolutely not. Was it massively fun despite watching most of the film through my fingers? 100%!!! We actually saw Fantastic Four last week and it was fine. The aesthetic was good, the casting was decent, it was fine. They’ve just been done to death, I think, and there’s nothing new to say.
And my song of the summer is…. What You Want Is Gone, surprise surprise 🙄😂 In fact let’s just be done with it and call it my song of the year/my life at the moment, I’m that obsessed! 🤩
I often cannot remember why I got up to go to another room in my flat but I did find myself remembering Lucky the cat's name way before you two did. I also think that ALF was the equivalent of some sort of national guard pilot when his planet exploded. Leaving me to conclude that I really need to sort my life out.
1. Could not beat you in a Cosby character recall quiz.
2. I remember ALF. I think it was on ITV, late afternoon, Saturday, but that might also have been that Dinosaur family puppet show. I'd happily forgotten that ALF ate cats.
3. Most concerned that out of the Pitchfork 20 songs of the Summer I only know 9 of the artists and couldn't tell you how *any* of the songs go. Is that normal?
I’ve been watching ALF every night this year. He’s attached to Willie in a way that he might be more like…his brother? I have thoughts on their relationship haha
The “no song of the summer” portion of this stoop chat has been living free in my head since I heard it.
Certainly in the UK last year, Sabrina Carpenter had complete dominance over the chart, at one point taking the top three spots. Espresso was undoubtedly the song of the summer here. People really love her over here, so my initial thought was her new single ‘Manchild’ (at least in the UK) but it just feels too overshadowed by how insane last summer was. I think maybe it’s the timing?
Pop still feels like the current zeitgeist genre, and I feel like there’s just way too much good pop music right now. Obsessed with Addison’s album, and I’ve been desperate to talk to someone about it. And I’m not sure if she’ll break the US, but I’m ridiculously excited for the debut JADE (Thirwall) album next month.
If 2024 was pop girl summer, I reckon 2025 is pop girl autumn,
Are you going to see "Weapons"? I think that's been getting a lot of hype. My 20-something son enjoyed it a lot. I am planning to see it this week.
I was exactly the target demographic for both "Alf" and "The Cosby Show" when they were first broadcast back in the day and watched both religiously. I remembered the careers of both Huxtable parents and the names of the children (and the actors who played them). Though I was an avid viewer, I don't remember much about the plot of "Alf" and had actually forgotten there was a daughter until you mentioned her. I did remember that the name of Alf's planet was Melmac.

I Already Hate This is my song of the summer 🌞✌🏼

I'm just celebrating my indecisiveness and saying QM is my album of the summer.
