It’s an ugly time on Planet Earth, with a fresh indictment for Donald Trunk (sp), weird weather roiling the globe, a presidential candidate got shot by narcos in Ecuador?, Elon Musk and “Zuck” are going to have a cage fight??, a portal to hell remains open in Ukraine😖???… You’re perfectly capable of filling in the next blank, and the one after that, no doubt, and these are not the topics you come to S.D.I.R. to read about. No, you’re here to vacation, if only briefly, in a world where shit horror movies, quick cocktails, comic books, music, dogs, and old books are the stuff of headlines, and with full awareness of that we present another of our award-seeking Stoop Chats, this one recorded yesterday late-afternoon at Pete’s Tavern in the Gramercy Park vicinity of Manhattan, over a couple of cold beers with a clear sky and an air temperature of about 75 Fahrenheit, quite pleasant in the shade, as of course we were.
Discussed:
Alan Moore’s graphic novel “From Hell,” about Jack the Ripper. Here is a review with a final paragraph that definitely says more about the reviewer than it does his subject.
“The Exorcist,” William Friedkin’s 1973 movie about… oh, you know. Chris mentions this piece from the weekend’s NY Times, somewhat fumbling its premise in the process. More importantly, Bret Easton Ellis interviewed Friedkin last year on his podcast, and it’s a magnificent listen that we absorbed while driving our little van around Europe in March. What a refreshingly plainspoken, intelligent fellow (even if some of his takes feel dated). Highly recommended, and B.E.E. removed the paywall on these episodes last week after the great man’s passing: here is episode one, and here is part two.
Oliver Stone’s JFK movie. This is what an AI art generator made when I typed in “JFK conspiracy,” seemingly suggesting (after having ingested the last hundred years of human knowledge?!?) that there were two JFKs:
Thanks for the hang, gang.
Signed,
The Hang Gang 🍇
The Red Dwarf episode 'Tikka to Ride' features JFK being shot by himself from a different timeline so maybe the AI is on to something.
