Just watched Land Shark on Amazon Prime and wondered if anyone else has seen it? Itβs pertinent to the creature feature conversation here and the bad film discussion in the AMA last month. My favourite bad film, I think. Lots of laughing and communal screaming in disbelief at the atrocity of the βspecial effectsβ and pretty much everything else on show. Made for a fabulous family night in!
My friends and I have a go to favourite bad film called 'Ghosthouse' from 1988. It's about a possessed clown doll that kills people. I think we rented it from Blockbuster when we were about 16 and still quote it to this day. Definitely recommend. I haven't seen Land Shark, will give it a watch π
Will look out for Ghost House - I have a sneaking suspicion I mightβve seen it at a sleep over when I was 15 or so. Fairly sure Land Shark is much, much worse!
Thank you for sharing the links to the Bret Easton Ellis podcast. That was three hours well spent this morning, although I did squirm a little right at the end when they got on to βLast Tango in Parisβ.
I watched all the Halloween films last year (except the Rob Zombie ones) as my fiance hadn't even seen the first one. It's not an experience I'd recommend. The Paul Rudd one and the Busta Rhymes one are particularly bad. Definitely give the third one a go if you want to have an 'what the AF am I watching?' experience.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch? With the kids masks? That film freaked me out as a teenager. I love all the Halloween films (although Iβve definitely not seen the last one - or possibly two) Which one is Paul Rudd in?
That's the one, I guarantee it would not freak you out as an adult π Paul Rudd is in number 6, the Curse of Michael Myers. He plays Tommy Doyle. The plot is so ludicrous it's worth a watch. I love the first one, one of the few horror films that still scares me. The way he just silently appears and don't even talk to me about how terrifying I find those slatted cupboard doors!
No, I have seen it since and it was not scary. The premise is so mean though! Iβve done a bit of research and it turns out Iβve not seen films 4, 5 or 6 from the original run so they may now be required viewing π. I agree with you that itβs terrible, but I still kinda like Halloween Resurrection, Busta Rhymes and all!
Really enjoyed this. So interested in the horror discussion. Yes, slasher flicks are at there best when they feature a shadowy killer with no apparent motivation. Thatβs what makes them scary, although I think one of the best of the genre is βHushβ, where the killer is altogether more human but equally psychotic. I think itβs also why people are fascinated by serial killers, and particularly Jack the Ripper - their motivations are incomprehensible.
I had not heard about the particular conspiracy theory laid out in βFrom Hellβ but had definitely heard of the possibility that the Ripper was in fact a minor royal prone to bouts of insanity due to syphilis. Personally, Iβm not sure creating the Ripper legend would be a smart way to cover up anything and I think life is too short, and too fraught, to be worrying about conspiracies of any sort. My mind did boggle a little at the end of that review though. Iβm not sure what the reviewer was thinking!
I was unaware that Stephen King had written a werewolf book. This is exciting news for me - thank you.
Also, stupidity is undoubtably an endearing quality in a dog but I would argue that by far the best dog in literature is the wonderful, super intelligent Einstein from Dean Koontzβ βWatchersβ so a smart dog is ok by me!
The Red Dwarf episode 'Tikka to Ride' features JFK being shot by himself from a different timeline so maybe the AI is on to something.
Ah, yep. That could well be the source.
Recommend this book on the victims of Jack The Ripper: https://www.hallierubenhold.com/books/the-five/
Yes, Iβve heard good things about this.

If you canβt find it I have the DVD somewhere. Ancient technology π₯²
Perfect! Iβll let you know if I need a loan.

Nothing wrong with liking terrible films! π
