Will Elton John do a 12-show residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas? 🌐

Not all Stoop Chats happen on a stoop, you know.

What do U2, Elton John, The 1975, Blossoms, and LCD Soundsystem have in common? We chew on each of them during today’s Stoop Chat, like a couple of cows masticatin’ turf — digesting our nutrition orally, that is, as opposed to gastrically. (Please pay attention!)

Will The MSG Sphere have the guts to turn into a bloody eyeball for the week or two leading up to Halloween? And maybe for National Intelligence Services Day in February?

Discussed in today’s Chat:

• A behind-the-scenes look at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, which is apparently a big boost to local businesses, though how that could be true for the bodega Keith mentions is anybody’s guess.

• Frankie’s Tiki Hut, the best bar in Vegas, and a contender for best bar in the world.

• U2’s show at The Sphere, the largest spherical building you can see U2 in. Here’s some footage from the show, if you haven’t already seen any. Here’s more on those advertising costs. And it looks like tickets are not always as expensive as we suggest — you can catch Daron Aaronofsky’s new nature documentary for a measly $49.

• LCD Soundsystem’s annual “going out of business” sale.

• Elton John’s recent shows, which we weren’t sure how to classify. According to Sky News, “Sir Elton confirmed he will ‘never be touring again,’ but revealed he may do a ‘one-off thing’ sometime in the future — adding that would be ‘miles away.’” Whether “miles away” is a reference to time or to distance, we cannot know, but doubtless the smart money says EJ will at some point need to play The Sphere.

Should The Empire State Building try to compete with The MSG Sphere by painting itself into a giant no. 2 pencil, and damn the consequences?

Boy oh boy, it’s been a while since we posted an Oi! Mate…, but rest assured that’s not because we haven’t been using your subscription fees to buy alcohol. No, the problem is that we slurp it up so dang fast that we don’t get a chance to photograph it — you can see above how close we got to once again polishing off our drinks faster than a camera can snap a pic. We were on our toes this time, though, so Oi! Shelby1970, Mate… thank you so much for these beers. Seriously, Shelby1970, these were among the sweetest pilseners our throats have squished in a long, long time — probably at least a day. And YOU footed the tab. For that, Shelby1970, and for being a paid subscriber to S.D.I.R. since June, we offer you an “Oi,” and a “fanks,” which is how some Brits seem to believe “thanks” is spelled.
