In an amusing (to me) twist, the only 2 Substacks I follow are this and British comedian Richard Herring and there he is sitting next to Chris at the table and with his arm around Keith in the picture after that. As he has been keeping a daily blog for several years, I looked back to see what he said about this day: "The other guests were finding it similarly surreal. I can't imagine what "We Are Scientists" made of it all, though they remained good-humoured"

The table photo looks like an experimental speed dating version of First Dates, Herring wistfully glancing at Chris and Keith in a "I'll have what they're having" kind of way whilst sat next to a folded arms Theakston 😆

Also that has helped me recognise that 'goatee and light gray shirt' guy is former TV presenter Jamie Theakston.

I would also like to commission someone (anyone) to dig up the footage for The Fly Awards. DM me your rates.

That final photo of Keith looking despondent at The Fly Awards is me at most social gatherings these days

Loved reading this and the added context to the Dean Street apology CD, which has not been devalued because of the post. New material excitement reaching fever pitch.

This has cheered me up no end! The Fly Awards photo made me laugh out loud. It’s great to have some background on the Dean Street session too.

I’d seen that foliage photo somewhere before completely out of context. It now makes a lot more sense.

Thanks for the update on the new record. Exciting news. I genuinely cannot wait!

Just realised where I’d seen that photo before! Dateline Dublin SDIR 22 Feb 2023.

Sending you virtual batches of portable foliage to you all for this Sunday delight (which did indeed arrive at brunch o'clock, which I'm going to go ahead and assume was deliberate!) ☘️🌱🌿

It was like surround sound Sunday Brunch, great reading the WAS experience whilst watching Nicky Wire and James Dean Bradfield tolerating it on TV 🥰

I would pay real American dollars to watch that flower arranging segment.

And thank you for streaming option! The CD was very exciting ... until I realized I don't own anything that can play CDs, and probably haven't for several years. 🫤

I agree, Lauren. That segment sounds like a lost gem!

The on-stage photo from The Fly Awards has so much going on...is the fella having a reach for Chris' goods? Is Chris wearing WAS underwear? Is that a thing? Can it be?!

Also, mixing new album!!! LFG!!!

That is indeed W.A.S. underwear, an item we produced during the With Love & Squalor campaign. With a cat's face silkscreened onto the front panel of a tasteful brown cotton brief made by then-trendy American Apparel, this was a product we mistakenly expected to fly off the merch table. We were left with many, many unsold units, and for years after, Keith's underwear drawer was something like 80% brown W.A.S. butthuggers. I owned a few pairs, and if the nearly-nude stage appearance was planned in advance (I still have zero recollection of that night's script), then it makes sense I'd have strategically worn our house brand. What is a statistical near-certainty is that Keith had on an identical pair under his trousers.

Fun continuation...idk if u guys are familiar with the work of Garfunkel and Oates, but today I was out shoveling snow with my iPod and their track 'Places To Rest' shuffled up. It has a lyric about American Apparel. Fantastic timing. :)

As usual, the W.A.S. stage work is second to none! What a treat for everyone that evening! No doubt, the fella extending his hand towards your briefs is reveling in awe & inquiring how they may procure their own! Top notch <3

Okay…

1. I might as well just burn that CD now. I thought we were special, the chosen few. But what’s the point now if you release to the vermin public? Furious.

2. Wasn’t it Ed’s fault in the first place that the TVeF10 vinyl was delayed? Well that’s what you said in the e-mails (I’ve kept them as proof), and the special song you made.

Right well I’m off to build a small to medium fire in my garden to burn said CD.

Afterwards I’m logging into the Dark Web ti find out where Paul Hughes lives & hire someone to ‘have a word’.

The only way you could make this up to me is if you announce a 19yr anniversary vinyl of ‘Crap Attack’.

In defence of Ed, he makes some good calls; without his insistence we wouldn't have the instrumentals on TVeF10, so we got magnificent Murray vocal ones AND crystal clear, can hear everything they're playing ones 🙌 MacDonald!

Plus as someone who didn't buy the vinyl (went for the cd/t/keyring/zine bundle) I'm happy to now hear the Dean Street Session too 🙏
