Itโs really kind of you to use your platform and janor swabwos knowledge to try and gift a PR win to Noel Gallagher right now. Such a great silver lining of this not working out that youโve instead gifted us these two lovely acoustic renderings. Selfless, iconic behaviour from WAS on display here.
Noely G also once said about testing new songs out at empty venues pre-gig that "I used to feel them out by getting my acoustic guitar and strumming them after soundcheck, because you sound like Jesus in a big arena."
Is this something WAS can attest to? My knowledge of The Bible is limited but I think details were lacking when it came to stories of Jesus playing the O2 Arena Nazareth.
The idea of not rushing STRAIGHT to the pub the instant soundcheck is over โ pushing stage techs and guitar stands onto their sides as we scramble to get off the stage โ is very, very alien to us. Noel sounds like an exotic bird indeed.
I actually enjoyed this version of Search and Destroy, and, yes, Slow Down sounds beautiful here, although I do miss the guitar solo. It seems a shame for it to remain solely consigned to the substack and I wondered, if you do make the TV demos available for download, whether you might throw this one in as well?
It does also seem to me that we are no further forward in devising a definitive test for identifying janor swabwos. Are we destined to forever linger in uncertainty? I certainly feel ill equipped for the task.
Where one test fails to identify something another test may yet exist. However, we may be able to agree the main bonus from this experiment is two excellent acoustic songs. Thank you!
Keith encountered Noel side-stage at an NME Awards many years ago. I think they were presenting in succession or something. Keith was standing next to Noel in awkward silence when the latter said, "Scientist, eh?," to which Keith stammered some kind of affirmative.
Innnnnnteresting results here! Imho, Slow Down FAILS the NG janor swabwo verification test. It is simply too melodic! As, I suppose, had already been proven with la version sous la mer. However, Search and Destroy simply doesn't stick as much melodically, so therefore PASSES THE TEST!?
I would be fascinated to see this method applied to Lose Control by Ash. I believe that to be my favourite janor swabwo of all time.
Side note: I was tempted to submit the Bad Nerves back catalogue to the pile of janor swabwos on Monday but, now the NG janor swabwo verification method has been cemented, I realise that all their songs are, in fact, PUNK BALLADS ๐คฏ
Iโll admit that I agree that โSlow Downโ survives the NG test a little better than โSearch And Destroyโ does. I shared that particular cover without editorial comment to avoid swaying the listenerโs experience, but yeah - itโs not a performance Iโve shared with great pride. Itโs science, not art.
But holy cow, re-listening to the original in order to learn the song has got me on a real Stooges jag. What a bunch of rock pythons! And I donโt mean โrock pythonโ in the bad way that Floridians normally do!
As you continue your gracious descent into radness, I believe you are proving once and for all that science and art can indeed converge in an almost undetectable venn diagram ๐ต
If you google 'janor swabwo' you get... absolutely no results, except 'Did you mean: "janor swab"'. Not even a googlewhack. Somebody should do something.
Also, there's no question mark at the end of 'Did you mean: "janor swab"'. Who do I call about that?

We are trying to model best practices not just for the Gallagher brothers but for artists of all caliber and creed. โฎ๏ธ

Whenever you guys talk about the G boys I get a little giddy inside. I wonder if they've ever been asked if they were scientists.

Please tell me he said, โโฆmaybe?โ

Hey, you guys ARE scientists after all! ๐๐ผ

As long as 4-chan is bubbling over with thousands of janor swabwo threads, we know we're doing it right.
