I have never had the pleasure of eating a Taco Bell but I love Mexican food so I reckon I would love it. Spending your well earned day off eating curry sounds perfect. I may well follow your lead and order a Matar Paneer for my tea tonight. (By tea I mean dinner...that’s what we call our evening meal up north!) Also, just wanted to say thanks for prompting us all to remember the awesome stuff we all listened to as teenagers. I spent this weekend rediscovering some absolutely brilliant songs and albums that haven’t been given the attention they deserve and it’s been great to reminisce and remember why I loved them all those years ago! Enjoy your day off Guys! ❤️
Tonight’s show was wonderful. I was super excited and, in those circumstances, it might be easy to come away slightly disappointed, but this definitely did not happen. I love Thekla and this has cemented it as my favourite venue. Great crowd, great atmosphere. Have to say, I did not notice any tilting myself.
With regard to Taco Bell, I could not find the option I really wanted which was ‘I’ve never even seen one so have no idea whether I like it or not’. Do we even have them in the UK?
Enjoy Birmingham tomorrow. It sounds like a busy day so a movie might be optimistic. It’s a great city so I’m sure you’ll have fun either way.
We definitely have them in the UK! They’re not for everyone, but they’re also pretty cheap, so if you see one don’t be afraid to try a chalupa or something!
Back in my 20s. I had Taco Bell once after a day out to a brewery in Huddersfield followed by night out in Leeds. Apparently I had the hexagonal wrap thing and announced at the time (like any drunk person with any food) that it was the best thing I’d ever eaten... so I guess I have no idea what it’s like.
Sorry for wasting your time, so here are some strongly held opinions on other from other US exports to the UK:
Chipotle - Bland and expensive. Worst of the chain burrito places. It’s made me angry every time I’ve eaten there and I can’t understand why people think it’s good.
Five Guys - It’s quite good but wish the portion sizes could’ve been adapted to be a bit more European. We’re not built for this in the UK, though so many of us have tried and failed.
Shake Shack - Only consumed this once whilst drunk and another time whilst hungover. Why is the cheese all saucy like that? Wouldn’t eat again.
Popeyes - How is this so good? Absolutely unbelievable. This is going to ruin all of our lives.
Blank Street Coffee - So, so good! New favourite addition to the London coffee shop scene.
While I haven’t shared your Substack, one of your posts did lead to a real life discussion - with a work colleague originally from Florida - about the lack of filter coffee in the UK. She’s furious about the way British people will happily pour boiling water on a little instant coffee, refer to their espresso machines as coffee machines and use a cafetière to prepare black coffee. She went out and bought a “proper coffee machine” which I hear is like a big jug where the coffee drips down(??)
Much love and have a brilliant day off. Haters will say there’s no way you could have a nice day out in Birmingham, but you and I both know that’s not true.
With you on Five Guys, love the burgers and dogs but (maybe this is just the one local to me) I’ve always found their fries to be super greasy so rarely order them.
Catch me on the Manage Subscriptions page NEVER. Send me all your business straight to my email. I love this day and age
In your “Just the Facts” post, you were debating including Dinosaurs for the Bristol setlist - it was an excellent decision, glad that you did. 👏🏻

Taco Bell is dead to me. They took away the shredded chicken option. I don’t like their chicken cubes. What am I...an animal?

One recently opened in Newport and it was the most exciting thing to have happened there in years, maybe ever.

Feel like Cocaine Bear is a movie that we need a WAS review of.
Also wondering if Chris putting his email address out there was an oversight or just not bothered.
Enjoy Birmingham, see you down Ghetto Golf for the ultimate combination of mini golf and cocktails!
I didn't notice any tilting, but to be fair I think I was already tilting a bit by the time I got there 🍸🍺🍷🍹
I can’t believe people wouldn’t want to read this stuff!
I mean, I wasn’t expecting to get a craving for a chalupa at 7am cos WAS is talking about Taco Bell, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’ve only even seen Taco Bell about five times in the UK.

I have a filter coffee machine at home. Are they no longer the norm for proper coffee? Espresso machines seem expensive and over complicated.
I have never seen one in my life or known anybody who owns one. Definitely a child of instant coffee heathens/tea drinkers.
100%! Only heathens drink instant
I’ve always enjoyed a Wendy’s and hoping for one opening near me soon which probably says a lot about how exciting my life is right now

Great gig in Bristol you were on form 👍🏻. An interesting venue 🤔 It had quite a tilt by the end of the night!
